Belfast's Cathedral Quarter

By: Helen Kelly

The Cathedral Quarter, the focal point of which is Saint Anne's Cathedral, is the most fashionable part of Belfast and stretches from Royal Avenue to Dunbar Link. In the past it was the heart of the city's warehouse and trade district and has undergone an ambitious transformation to become Belfasts self designated cultural quarter.

In the daytime you can stroll around and take in the impressive architecture of the area's original buildings as well as the magnificent Hiberno-Romanesque style of St Anne's Cathedral - check out the piazza in front of the cathedral! The arts and crafts scene has really taken off here and shopaholics certainly won't be disappointed as it's right next to Belfast's main shopping district in and around Donegall Square. And after the sun goes down you can enjoy the vibrant cosmopolitan buzz of one of Belfast's newest districts.
