Building Your Own Private Patio Garden

By: Kenny F Leichester

There is no describing the joy of coming home from work to a delightful traditional patio backyard complete with a small garden and perhaps, a fish pond, for melting away those knots of weariness from a hard day's at the office.
Choose any concept you desire be it an English garden with roses and steel furniture. Or you can go for an exotic look that is made up of wicker furniture and interesting looking plants. Maybe you prefer the classic look with teak furniture, mini pond and well trimmed hedges.
Whatever you decide to do for your garden, you can be sure that the perfect end result would require a great deal of effort. A beautiful garden would certainly increase the value of your home however; it is the quiet moment that is soothing to the soul is what gives a beautiful garden its priceless value.
The result of hard work put into a garden can only be thoroughly enjoyed in a year or so. Therefore, hard work is not the only contributing factor to a beautiful garden; a lot of patience will also be needed. It is a good idea to a blueprint for you to effectively build your garden.
When embarking on a project for the first time, it is ideal if you have someone to guide you. Who knows more about gardens than gardener? A gardener will provide you with the tips and references for your garden. You should also have a garden somewhere that is the source of your inspiration. It is hard to simply imagine what should be grown in your garden. A real garden will provide a clear picture of what you should have.
Mix and match your garden's populace. There are a dazzling amount of beautiful plants - including small fruits trees and miniature palms - instead of just a straightforward "flower patch with the odd wood accessory thrown in the way"- look. Take care that you do not over plant the bigger trees as it is a garden we are creating and not a shrubbery, and especially not a miniature forest.
If the tropical look is what you have in mind, teak should be furnishing your outdoor as patio furniture. This is because, not only does it bring out the tropical look, this timeless beauty is also durable and is able to withstand the harsh outdoor environment. Keeping it looking good is also not an issue teak does it naturally. Think about getting a teak pergola for instance. Though it is pricey, you will not be disappointed with the whole outlook that it will provide your garden. Another plus point for having a teak pergola is it is mobile; you can move it to other positions in garden should you decide to change the layout of your garden.
When you choose wood, you should also think about the inflexibility of it. There is not much you can do to the wood should you feel that it is in a way of your creative work. You’d simply have to accept it the way it is. However, using wood, you can be sure that it does not leave debris that could ruin your garden.
Patio umbrellas are good for the preliminary stage where you need to protect the infant plants from the sun. However, after the plants have fully developed and are able to provide you with the shade, you can then rid the patio umbrella. However, if you have a wooden umbrella, it will surely be a great décor for the garden as it will be stylish and provide you the protection should you need to stay out in the hot or drizzly days to care for your plants.
The garden should ideally be a place you can enjoy throughout the year. A heater can ensure that you are able to utilize the garden as many days in a year as possible. However, a heater should not be something that changes the temperature for your garden and manipulate the plants. Nothing about the garden will be natural of that happens.
If you do opt for it, work the item into your blueprint from the start. That way it would not jar the whole look when your garden is completed.
Having a garden is like having a child. You watch it grow, nurture it and love it. The journey will never end as you will always find new things to try and do for your garden, as well as enjoy it as long as you love it.
