By: Mairead Foley

This 6 day international festival kicks off on Tuesday 8th of July and wraps up on Sunday 13th of July. The festival's aim is to bring everyone from the world of cinema, (including actors, directors and of course, the cinema-going public) to come together and celebrate their passion for the cinema and films.

One of the major events of the week is the Film Fair, which takes place from the 10th -12th of July. This is where film-makers pitch their ideas to financiers and producers. The Galway Film Fair can organise pre-scheduled meeting over the course of the two days.

The highlight of the weekend is sure to be the prestigious Pitching Award. If you are a budding film maker with big ideas, then all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning this award is submit your story idea for the big screen in no more than 500 words. Only 5 will be selected to pitch their idea in front of a panel of judges and the final winner will get the chance to expand their pitch into a full feature film script.

The locations used for this year's Film Festivals are The Townhall Theatre, Courthouse Square, the Galway Omniplex on Headford Road, The Rowing Club, Woodquay, the Raddisson SAS, Lough Atalia Road, Eyre Square (open-air screenings) and the Cinemobile which will be at several locations.
