Why Stop Drug Addiction?

By: Perry Clayman

Recreational drugs like marijuana, cocaine, crack, and heroin can make people feel superior. They deliver a feeling of euphoria. A person under the influence of drugs feels invincible. For a while, they can forget their problems. Why then are drug rehabilitation programs insist on stopping drug addiction?

Who are the common users of recreational drugs? More often than not, they are the people who want to get separated from reality. They are those who seek attention and feeling of belongingness. They are the ones who are facing serious problems, be it in family, peers, relationship, career or finances. They are the ones who need to feel secure and high.

Drugs can make your views about your current situation different. For a while, you will be able to forget your burdens. Your life will be filled with hallucinations and false reality that will somehow make you forget about reality. It can make you feel high amidst all the pressures within your peers, family and career. If you will look at it this way, there is no need to stop taking drugs. It makes you feel good, so why stop something that makes you feel good?

False Benefits Of Drug Addiction

Drug addiction has false benefits. Users are made to believe it brings something good for them when in fact it brings nothing but disaster. The feeling of euphoria can last up to 3 hours but after that, the same problems will still haunt you. You will forget your problem for a while but it is still there waiting to haunt you once the effect of drugs has subsided.

Drug addiction leads to serious health problems. It slowly kills a person’s life. You wouldn’t barter your whole life for a 3-hour euphoric feeling, would you? It follows that these drug rehabilitation programs are right. Drug abuse is dangerous and can ruin one’s life. The good news is that it is treatable.

How many times have you read or heard about a lot of people getting in and out of drug rehabilitation centres? These are proofs that these people have realised that drug addiction needs to be stopped. There is life out there and if people will just stop hiding their problems inside with a euphoric feeling, there is a better world that awaits them.

Now back to the question, why stop drug addiction? Not unless we foster death and sickness, drug addiction should be stopped. It brings nothing but problem. As you may have noticed, most social problems that societies face are related to drug addiction. So why still get addicted to drugs then?
