  • Rolex Day Date President
    The new Day-Date model (6511) was released at the Basel fair in 1956. In this model, the 12 position had a window that spelled out the day of the week, and the 3 position displayed the day of the month. Due to many intricacies in the watch's movement, the early models were very launched as a niche model, though it gained popularity soon enough which it thoroughly deserved. It came to be known as the “President” and Rolex's new flagship model, after the launch of the concealed clasp.
  • Rolex Datejust
    Released in the year 1945, to mark the 40-year anniversary of the inception of Rolex, the Datejust is the best selling watch of Rolex. Intially, in honor of the Allied victory in WWII, Wilsdorf thought of naming it “The Victory”, however it was changed to the “Jubilee” and Datejust , shortly thereafter. At first many thought that the Datejust was just a variation to the Bubbleback, which was released in the 1940's, and both were known as the Ovettone for its domed back.

    Wilsdorf realized that his watches needed to be extremely durable, in addition to accurate. Under his leadership and direction, Rolex made many innovations in either creating the technology or buying patents that made wrist watches dust proof, water proof, and auto winding. Wilsdorf did not do anything in half measure and showcased its performance and advertised the new products in a dramatic manner.
